The main missions of the Foundation for the Memory of Slavery are to develop knowledge and transmission of the history of slavery, the slave trade and its abolition as an integral part of the history of France (France, Africa, the Americas, the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean), to bring memories together by promoting the cultural, artistic and human heritage of this history, to fight against discrimination and to contribute to national cohesion

With the aim of developing research on slavery, the slave trade, its abolition and its legacy, the Fondation pour la Mémoire de l'esclavage offers financial aid for research on slavery and grants for students enrolled in a Master's degree or a doctorate, as well as for young researchers in the humanities and social sciences, to facilitate their research and enable them to disseminate their results.
