  • Ambitious Training Programs

The Faculty of Law and Political Science is a pioneer in the field of law, and is constantly adapting to a constantly changing world and offering training in line with the times. In addition to a regularly updated offer which is open to all, emphasis is placed on the different modes of transmission, notably with the development of digital and distance learning.

  • Innovative and dynamic research

Research is a central activity within the Faculty of Law and Political Science of Aix-Marseille University, at the heart of the mission of its teacher-researchers. Through study days, colloquia, collective publications and field research, the Faculty of Law's teacher-researchers conduct ambitious and stimulating research in order to strengthen the quality and attractiveness of our courses.

  • A strong international outlook

The Faculty of Law and Political Science of Aix-Marseille has made international openness one of its major areas of development. The Faculty has a long tradition of welcoming and opening up to the world, which contributes to its influence and development and makes it a centre of knowledge open to students and researchers from around the world.

Because of its geographical location, the FDSP has developed privileged relations with academic partners in the Mediterranean area. However, the scope of its international relations goes far beyond this geographical area and extends to Europe, of course, but also to the whole world: it is based on partnerships of excellence with universities on all five continents.

  • Strong links with the socio-economic world

For more than 600 years, the Faculty of Law and Political Science has been able to evolve and adapt to its environment in order to contribute to the economic development of its territory and support the employment of its young graduates. Thus, as several studies have pointed out, "1 euro invested in higher education means 4 euros of spin-offs for the local economy".

In order to be as close as possible to the expectations of the professional world, the FDSP has developed numerous partnerships over the years and has constantly increased the number of its training courses eligible for work-study.

  • A rich student life

At the heart of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, students benefit from a location at the heart of urban, cultural and sporting life. Access to the various sites is greatly facilitated by a well-developed and efficient public transport network. In order to allow students to achieve their objectives in the best possible conditions, all amenities are nearby, the premises are regularly renovated and the outdoor areas are developed and improved for a pleasant study environment. They are also supported by numerous student associations which offer them assistance and various events.

A word from the Dean

A faculty focused on the success of its students and upholding the values of high standards and merit.

The Faculty of Law and Political Science at Aix-Marseille University has a history dating back several centuries to 1409 and welcomes more than 10,000 students each year at its three sites (Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Arles). However, it has demonstrated a certain modernity by bringing together all the members of the faculty around a bold project in training, research, development, innovation and influence.
In this period of renewal of the establishment contract, the faculty intends to implement a responsible and optimistic policy, clearly defined and resolutely turned towards the students. All decisions, whether they are pedagogical, scientific, in terms of human resources, assets or finances, must be guided by the success and professional integration of students.
Emphasis is placed on a training offer that is clear and promising for its graduates. The professional success of students must become the priority objective of the faculty. In particular, it is necessary to develop pedagogical innovations, the use of digital technology, as well as distance learning, to reinforce apprenticeship training which is conducive to successful professional integration, and to develop the range of courses by being attentive to the needs of the legal, judicial and socio-economic world.
In terms of research, the Faculty intends to perpetuate the reputation of its centres and laboratories, which are highly evaluated by national and international bodies. The "Rights, Powers and Societies" research federation must constitute a strong element of valorization, structuring and development of a research capable of evolving towards international standards and thus constitute a support to the projects of the teachers-researchers.

Some famous students

Paul Cézanne was twenty years old when he enrolled in the Faculty of Law in 1859. Clearly, law was not the major preoccupation of this student, who, two years later, chose a "professional insertion" in a completely different field... Adolphe Thiers undoubtedly benefited more from the lessons he received in this same Faculty since he had a brilliant career in the State services before being placed, in 1871, at the head of the French republic.

Other famous members, both awarded a Nobel Prize, are Frédéric Mistral, bard of Provence, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904, and René Cassin, the main inspirer and writer of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Nobel Prize for Peace in 1968.
