Although it has been the subject of numerous works in the humanities and social sciences for decades, taking into account the interests of animals is a question that still seems to be emerging in French law. Historically, this concern has mobilized legislators in criminal matters, but in civil law it is often the focus of discussions on the status of animals. As a result, the place of the animal is easily confined to questions relating to the appropriateness of legal personification, or to the reassessment of the repressive sanctions that accompany certain offences committed against certain animals. The aim of this symposium is to study contract law in the light of the animal. To put it another way, it will ask whether, in the light of legislative developments aimed at better protection of animals, the rules and practice governing contract law, both in general law and in special branches, are adapted (or not) to greater consideration of the interests of animals.
