1 Summary presentation of the scheme
The European Commission published on July 13 the multi-annual work program 2021-2024(pdf of 47 pages)
of the LIFE programme managed by the European Executive Agency for Climate, Infrastructure and the Environment (CINEA)

This programme is the European Commission's financial instrument for supporting projects in the fields of the environment and climate. It is aimed at public and private project promoters and aims to promote and finance innovative projects concerning, for example, the conservation of species and habitats, soil protection, the improvement of air or water quality, waste management or mitigation or adaptation to climate change and the energy transition.
For the period 2021-2027 the LIFE programme will have a budget of €5.4 billion at European level divided into 2 axes:
An "Environment" axis which is composed of two sub-programs:
- "Nature and Biodiversity"
- A "Circular Economy and Quality of Life" sub-programme, which covers the themes previously included in the "Environment and Efficient Use of Resources" sub-programme
A "Climate Action" axis composed of the sub-programs:
- "Climate change mitigation and adaptation"
- Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation" and "Transition to Clean Energy".
The first calls for projects of the new LIFE 2021-2027 programming have been launched for the four strands of the programme: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation; Transition to Clean Energy; Circular Economy and Quality of Life; Nature and Biodiversity - more information:

NB:
- exceptionally, in 2021, the LIFE call for projects will be structured in one step (except for strategic projects - ex integrated projects), with the submission of a full proposal only.
- The platform for submitting LIFE projects is changing. The submission of an application will no longer be done on the European platform eProposal but on the platform "Funding and Tenders".

- In addition, the whole format of the application and the structuring of the forms has been changed compared to previous years.
