Although many scientific events have already studied the establishment of military justice from the 14th century onwards, the study of ordinary jurisdictions in times of war has often been neglected, even though these institutions are essential interlocutors for the public. This colloquium aims to better understand the attitude of judges and the state when troubles appear: do they try to maintain the ordinary jurisdictions in order to guarantee the smooth running of society and to reinforce the support of the populations for the power in place or, on the contrary, are they abandoned because their procedures are too complex to face the urgency of the situations that appear? The aim is therefore to better analyze the place of justice in the strategy deployed by the state and its rivals (armed rebel bands, competing states, etc.).
