(Calenda announcement 1014864)

(...) This conference, co-organized by the Caen Bar Association, the Faculty of Law of the University of Caen and the Ecole des avocats du grands Ouest, invites us to reflect on the need to judge. We invite you to explore the need to judge in the light of time, with the technical issues of prescription, scientific truth and the challenges of cold cases; to explore the need to judge in the light of philosophical questions and historical reflections, by questioning the expectations of victims and the role of the judge; to explore the need to judge by listening to the actors and witnesses of the great trials of the history of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, during an evening open to the general public. Voluntarily multidisciplinary, this conference, which will take place in Normandy, will also be an opportunity to question the evolution of our criminal justice system with, on the one hand, an analysis of the feedback from the experimentation of criminal courts and, on the other hand, a mirror image of the future of our assize courts model.
