The "Political Violence in the Twentieth Century" symposium (Paris, ENS, June 6-8, 2024) follows on from a series of scientific events held since 2015. These have mainly involved Iberian and Latin American researchers. In order to continue the dialogues already underway, this new edition intends to deepen reflections on certain processes of political violence (military dictatorships, insurrectional violence, mass repression) and post-crisis situations (transitional processes, memories). Research on the Ibero-American zone will intersect with contributions on violence in colonial, war and/or genocidal contexts in other areas, from the 20th century to the present day. This international colloquium will bring together historians from different geographical areas, while extending discussions to other social sciences, notably sociology, political science and anthropology. This is a bilingual French/Spanish event. Simultaneous translation will be available for participants and the public (bring your own earphones and a smartphone or laptop to connect to the Zoom application on site).
