The French Red Cross Foundation is a public utility foundation dedicated to supporting research on humanitarian and social action by awarding research grants and prizes. It is the expression of the French Red Cross' desire to promote scientific knowledge, ethical reflection and social innovation in order to advance action in the service of the most vulnerable.

Summary of the scheme

Each year, the Foundation awards the Albert Viala Prize for a written work in French, published or unpublished, of a literary or legal nature, having as its object the defence of fundamental freedoms.

Candidates, without restriction of nationality, must have published at least one work in the three years preceding the deadline for applications and must hold a doctorate (PhD or equivalent) from any faculty.

Presentation of the scheme

In honour of its founding president, the International Association for the History of Crime and Criminal Justice (IAHCCJ) has instituted a prize to reward an original article in the widely understood field of the history of crime and criminal justice written by a researcher in the early stages of his/her career.
