In a short essay devoted to "blasphemy," Benveniste called for "attention to the nature of this prohibition, which relates not to 'saying something' that would be an opinion, but to 'pronouncing a name' that is pure vocal articulation. It is properly the linguistic taboo: a certain word or name must not pass through the mouth. It is simply cut off from the register of the language, erased from the use, it must not exist any more ". This particular type of restriction on freedom of expression does indeed merit close scrutiny. The incessant polemics of the last few years demand that they be inventoried and re-examined. What kinds of mobilizations and struggles, inseparably semantic and social, lead to these restrictions and their contestation? In what forms, more or less informal, do these norms become institutionalized? How are they applied, and are they really insensitive to employment contexts?
