This issue of the Senegalese journal of history focuses on the actors and forms of intermediation in Africa from the 15th century to the present day. The 15th century extended Africa's relations with the Mediterranean world and opened it up to the Atlantic world, integrating the continent into a new world-space. The result was strong interdependence, new interactions and multiple, diverse connections between Africa and the continents of Europe, America and Asia. It is in this context that new types of actors are emerging, acting as intermediaries and establishing links between individuals, institutions, states and non-state organizations. This issue will analyze the role of these actors and their practices, in order to assess historical continuities and possible current legacies.
