In the year 2024, organizing a scientific event around the heritage of sport and sports facilities may at first seem opportunistic in view of current events in this field. While the imminent staging of the Olympic Games in Paris did indeed give rise to the idea of reflecting on these types of building, it was quickly enriched by a twofold observation: the places where sport is practised and performed are often little-known and rarely protected.
