Too often focused on the search for a single cause and a simple, technical resolution to the problem - such as the discovery of a new treatment - we sometimes overlook the complex, systemic and multiscalar chains between the development of a treatment, its availability and its use by individuals, themselves inscribed in a context of intertwined historical, cultural, psychological, sociological, economic, info-communicational and geographical variables. This predominance of health issues underlines the need to integrate consideration of these dimensions of human life into crisis management. It is these various dimensions and perspectives that the Humanities and Social Sciences (SHS) bring to environmental and health issues that are of particular interest to us. How can SHS help build a more integrative, equitable and complex approach to health?
