Guillemine TAUPIAC NOUVEL and JOANA FALXA, Senior Lecturers at UPPA’s EEI and SSH College, are organising an annual series of online lectures entitled ‘360° Studies: Incest’.

Against a backdrop of widespread tolerance and a heavy silence surrounding a criminal phenomenon of appalling banality, incest constitutes a subject of study at the crossroads of disciplines. Long regarded by anthropology and literature as a foundational taboo, it is now the subject of renewed attention from legislators and legal scholars.

What is incest, and how do our societies address and portray it? Are there contexts that encourage it? How does the law deal with this phenomenon? How can we protect society, and children in particular? Can we improve our understanding of the elements of this crime in order to combat it more effectively?

This series of five lectures aims to explore these aspects by bringing together researchers and practitioners from complementary fields.

Held every two months on Thursday evenings from 5.30 pm to 7.30 pm, the lectures are open to all students from undergraduate to doctoral level, the academic community, professionals from the judicial and para-judicial systems, and the general public. They will be recorded for subsequent online publication.
