  • An ambitious training offer

The Faculty of Law and Political Science, a pioneer in work-study programs in the field of law, is constantly adapting to an ever-changing world and offering a range of courses in tune with the times. In addition to a regularly updated range of courses open to all, the emphasis is placed on different modes of transmission, notably with the development of digital and distance learning.

  • Innovative and dynamic research

Research is a core activity at Aix-Marseille Université's Faculty of Law and Political Science, and is central to the mission of the faculty's teacher-researchers. Through study days, colloquia, collective publications and field research, the Faculty's teacher-researchers carry out ambitious and stimulating research to enhance the quality and attractiveness of our courses.

  • A strong international outlook

Aix-Marseille's Faculty of Law and Political Science has made international openness one of its major areas of development. The Faculty has a long tradition of welcoming and opening up to the world, which contributes to its influence and development, and makes it a center of knowledge open to students and researchers from all over the world.

Thanks to its geographical location, the FDSP has developed privileged relations with academic partners in the Mediterranean region. However, the scope of its international relations extends far beyond this geographical area, not only to Europe, but also to the whole world: it is based on partnerships of excellence with universities on all five continents.

  • Strong links with the socio-economic world

For over 600 years, the Faculty of Law and Political Science has been able to evolve and adapt to its environment in order to contribute to the economic development of its region and support the employment of its young graduates. As several studies have pointed out, "1 euro invested in higher education means 4 euros in spin-offs for the local economy".

Over the years, the FDSP has developed a number of partnerships and constantly increased the number of courses eligible for work-study programs, in order to meet the expectations of the professional world as closely as possible.

  • A rich student life

At the heart of the Faculty of Law and Political Science, students benefit from a location at the heart of urban, cultural and sporting life. Access to the various sites is greatly facilitated by a well-developed and efficient public transport network. To enable students to achieve their goals in the best possible conditions, all amenities are close at hand, premises are regularly renovated, and outdoor spaces are landscaped and improved for a pleasant study environment. They are also supported by numerous student associations offering a wide range of assistance and events.

A word from the Dean

Promoting excellence and supporting success

Aix-Marseille University's Faculty of Law and Political Science is recognized in France and internationally for the excellence of its research and the quality of its training. Founded in 1409, the Faculty of Law and Political Science has a long history of training its students, both undergraduate and postgraduate, in the challenges and developments of law and political science.

Every year, at our three sites (Aix-en-Provence, Marseille and Arles), we train more than 10,000 students in Bachelor's degrees (Licence Droit and Licence Droit et science politique), in our Double Licences (Droit et lettres, Droit et histoire de l'art, Droit et économie-gestion) or in our Licences Professionnelles, but also in Master's degrees, with our 16 Master's degrees and 64 Master's 2 courses, and finally in Doctoral studies, within the École doctorale "Sciences juridiques et politiques". These national diplomas are complemented by a wide range of university diplomas and certificates, enabling students to enrich their career paths and pursue lifelong learning. Combining the acquisition of fundamental knowledge and the development of practical skills, these different courses are designed to meet the diversity of careers in law and political science, while ensuring the professional success of our students.

The quality of these courses is linked to the excellence of the research carried out within the Faculty of Law and Political Science. The fruit of individual or collective scientific work, our Faculty's research in law and political science is disseminated through our events, publications and numerous partnerships, to help shape the law and anticipate its changes.

At the heart of Aix-Marseille Université, the Faculty of Law and Political Science aims above all to be an open and accessible Faculty, enabling everyone to flourish, train and develop a critical mind, thanks to an academic community united around the future of our students and the construction of legal knowledge.

Some famous students

Paul Cézanne was twenty when he enrolled in the Faculty of Law in 1859. Clearly, law was not the major preoccupation of this student, who, two years later, opted for "professional insertion" in a completely different field... Adolphe Thiers undoubtedly benefited more from his studies at the same Faculty, since he went on to a brilliant career in government service, before being appointed head of the French Republic in 1871.

Other famous names to have won Nobel Prizes include Frédéric Mistral, the poet of Provence, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904, and René Cassin, the main inspiration behind the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1968.
