1 Brief description of the program (sources - FMSH website)
As part of its new "Oceans" program, the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l'Homme (FMSH) is launching its first call for projects to support international teams and networks in the human and social sciences. Faced with the urgency of climate challenges, this call aims to shed light on the human dynamics impacting maritime spaces, and to contribute to the development of sustainable and inclusive solutions.
Committed to the global effort to preserve the Ocean, the FMSH supports research in the human and social sciences to enrich our understanding of maritime spaces. This approach goes hand in hand with a partnership approach aimed at transforming the relationship between human societies and ocean ecosystems in a sustainable way. The FMSH actively encourages collaboration between scientific research and civil society organizations, public authorities, private companies, etc.
Projects may fall into one of the following areas, which are not limited to other themes:
- Governance and regulation of maritime spaces : legal, political, diplomatic and economic issues
- Ocean societies and cultures: practices, knowledge and representations
- Circulation and exchange: human, material and immaterial flows
- Conflicts and vulnerabilities: tensions, violence and resilience
In 2025, particular attention will be paid to projects dealing with the human and environmental dimensions of maritime violence: piracy, trafficking, armed conflicts, pollution, overexploitation of resources and degradation of ecosystems.
All disciplinary approaches in the human and social sciences are eligible. Interdisciplinary projects, especially those involving collaboration with life, earth and environmental sciences, are particularly encouraged.
Selected projects will receive financial support of between €15,000 and €30,000 over three years.
Developed in partnership with the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation's delegation in France, the "Oceans - Social Worlds, Living Worlds" call for projects aims to encourage the development of scientific research, the promotion of its results, and dialogue with civil society.
