The increasing specialisation of private law leads to the treatment of civil liability law in close connection with insurance law. The relationship between liability law as it is derived from statute or case law and insurance, which is one of the essential mechanisms guaranteeing the effectiveness of liability, is contested. The aggravation and multiplication of liability regimes require an increasingly important financial support, calling upon private insurance techniques but also, sometimes, national solidarity. Liability insurance will therefore never completely cover all the hypotheses of liability. The study of compensation litigation thus offers immense research topics for doctoral students and prospects for specialisation for the legal professions. However, there is not much in France, and not at all in the PACA region, in the way of research training in liability law and insurance law.

The standard course of study in liability law and insurance law will be developed in the PACA region.

The course type « Droit du contentieux et de l » relies on the research unit of the laboratory of private law and criminal sciences (LDPSC, EA 4690). It also relies on the Institut des Assurances d'Aix-Marseille.

    .

Created in 1975, the Institut des Assurances d'Aix-Marseille is, along with the three other Institutes in France, in Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux, the result of an exemplary partnership between the university and insurance professionals. For more than 40 years, the Institut des Assurances has established close relationships with the major French and mutual insurance companies, as well as with numerous brokerage firms. It provides students and researchers with a library containing a very large collection of documents, unique in the region, a workroom, a lecture room and a secretariat. Above all, it has a directory of former students who are the preferred contacts for new students looking for internships or jobs.
