AIMS
The aim of this standard course is to enable students to acquire the teaching and research techniques that will enable them to consider preparing a doctorate or to specialise in liability and insurance law (lawyers, experts, insurers, etc.).
Faced with the aggravation and multiplication of liability regimes, the "Liability and Compensation Litigation" pathway enables students to master the rules of liability and the techniques of private insurance but also sometimes, as a complement, the rules of national solidarity. In addition, students will be able to identify the emergence of new risks and their treatment by liability law, identify new categories of compensable injury and their methods of compensation.
Since the start of the new academic year in September 2019, and so that students can best grasp all the aspects and complete the teaching, the Masters in Litigation of Liability and Compensation is now done on a work-study contract (apprenticeship contract and pro contract) or with an internship lasting a minimum of 8 weeks.

LEARNING AND RESEARCH
The increasing specialisation of private law is leading to tort law being treated in close conjunction with insurance law. The relationship between liability law as derived from statute or case law and insurance, which is one of the essential mechanisms guaranteeing the effectiveness of reparation, is contested. The increase in the number and severity of liability regimes means that more and more of the costs have to be covered by private insurance and, in some cases, by national solidarity. Liability insurance will therefore never fully cover all cases of liability. The study of compensation litigation thus offers immense scope for research by doctoral students and opportunities for specialisation by the legal professions. However, there is very little in France and none at all in the PACA region in the way of research training in liability and insurance law.
The 'Liability and Compensation Litigation' pathway is based on the research unit of the Laboratory of Private Law and Criminal Sciences (LDPSC, EA 4690), and is also supported by the Aix-Marseille Insurance Institute.
Created in 1975, the Institut des Assurances d'Aix-Marseille, along with the other three Institutes in France, in Paris, Lyon and Bordeaux, bears witness to an exemplary partnership between the university and insurance professionals. For over 40 years, the Institut des Assurances has forged close links with the major French insurance companies, mutual insurers and numerous brokerage firms. It has a library for students and researchers, with a wealth of documentation that is unique in the region, a study room, a lecture room and a secretariat. Above all, it has a directory of former students who are the preferred contacts for new students looking for work placements or jobs.
