The Formalist is a key position in the notary office. They work with the notary to ensure the effectiveness of his acts. Unfortunately, the profession is sorely lacking in formalists because very few training courses (two) are offered and none of them have a diploma.

The formalist intervenes after the signature of the deeds made by the notary in order to make them opposable and to ensure their registration. The notary gathers the administrative documents, checks the content of the deeds and carries out the formalities for registering the notarial deeds (real estate sales, company articles of association, donations, etc.) with the administrations concerned. For example, for deeds relating to a real estate sale, the formalist is in charge of all the land publicity and registration of the deeds with the mortgage offices and the tax authorities.

The formalist is also in charge of the registration of the deeds with the tax authorities.

The objective of the professional license formalist is to allow the alternating students to master the fundamental legal bases, to be able to constitute the file for the publicity and tax services, to draw up the formalities for the tax authorities, and to be able to use the information provided by the tax authorities; They will be able to draw up the formalities for family law acts, simple and complex preliminary acts, specific tax and publicity acts, acts relating to the modification and extinction of a credit, commercial acts, etc.

This formalist professional licence is the only state diploma that would offer a work-study training of formalist.

Students will cover fundamental legal units for 141 hours of classes (shared with the other students of the notary's professional licence and the accountant-taxator professional licence) and 192 hours of classes devoted to the functions and role of the formalist and to formalities.
