(Calenda Announcement 1016209)
This seminar studies the history of security in a broad and multidimensional approach, linked to the social, political and cultural issues of general history. While it continues the study of the gendarmerie, an original military and police force, it also broadens the investigation to the history of all organizations, civilian or military, public (justice, national and municipal police, customs, fire departments, etc.) or private, which participate in security missions, internal and external. It gives a large place to the observation of the protagonists, professionals or not, as well as to their concrete practices. It also aims to contribute to the understanding of insecurity through the study of criminal acts and their political, media and judicial treatment, and through the exploration of fears and social passions, approached in their historical depth and their social and territorial diversity.
