Photography will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2026. To mark the events organised by the Ministry of Culture to celebrate this art form, the Air and Space Museum is organising a three-day symposium of discussion and discovery entitled ‘Aerial and Space Photography: Between Heritage and Contemporary Uses’. This symposium aims to address the central question of aerial and space photography as a scientific, artistic and heritage tool, used to produce and structure a representation of aerial phenomena, whilst offering a fresh perspective on territories and their uses. The museum, in collaboration with the Laboratory for Applied Studies and Research in Social Sciences at the University of Toulouse – Jean Jaurès, is offering three days of events on these themes, as well as exceptional tours and insights into these photographic collections.

This project has been awarded the ‘Bicentenary of Photography’ label by the Ministry of Culture and forms part of the official programme for the Bicentenary, running from 1 September 2026 to 30 September 2027.
