Doing better than television - On-site workshop 02 12 2024 - Sorbonne Nouvelle (Paris)

Online 27 11 2024

Announcement Calenda 1204590

Created in the wake of May 68 and the ORTF strike, the Société coopérative ouvrière de presse (Scopcolor) acted as an independent film news agency, producing and distributing a 16mm color news magazine called Certifié exact. The twenty or so programs produced between 1969 and 1972 constitute a unique audiovisual production, at the crossroads of "social reporting, political documentary and educational document", on in-depth subjects which, starting from the immediate news, are of interest to society as a whole. Focusing on the creation, organization and productions of Scopcolor, this one-day workshop will examine the underlying project of this press and production company, its place in the context of the 1968s and in the career of its founder, reporter and producer Roger Louis (1925-1982), the specific features of the news magazine it produced, and the distribution and animation circuit it helped mobilize across France. In addition to the films themselves, it will draw on archive material, as well as on the words of witnesses and players in this extraordinary experience.
