This study day aims to bring together different disciplines (demography, history, sociology) to question the scientific and political uses of fertility and infertility. On the one hand, the construction of statistical and conceptual tools in demography and epidemiology: how have gender and race shaped these tools? Secondly, an analysis of the political and social uses of notions and measures of fertility and infertility: how are the tools and results of demography and epidemiology used to control women's bodies in an attempt to increase or decrease births?
