The "outlaw" films pursue multiple objectives. Some of them are the result of a militant and protesting approach against the power in place, others of a will of moral and social transgression, and still others of a commercial intention feeding on the appetite of certain audiences for the illicit. The alternative, here, concerns as much the contents as the methods of production, diffusion and reception. It is the legislative framework, variable according to the geographical zones, the periods and the political regimes considered, which defines the alternative and the conditions of its existence. Understanding "outlaw" films in a way that is both global and comparative allows us to think about the phenomenon in a diachronic perspective, highlighting the extremely fluctuating nature of the law, the forbidden, and the consensual.
