The Bibliothèque nationale de France offers a regular program on the history of books and current events. This autumn 2024 half-day session, organized in partnership with the École nationale des chartes and the École nationale supérieure des sciences de l'information et des bibliothèques, is devoted to the destruction of books, particularly in libraries. This session will look at the historical and contemporary dimensions of this topic, and will address the legal and socio-political issues involved, not forgetting the technical and intellectual aspects of conservation requirements.
