EUROPE - LIFE PROGRAM 2021 - 2027 (calendar)

1 Summary of the program
On July 13, the European Commission published the 2021-2024 multiannual work program(pdf, 47 pages) for the LIFE program.

This program is the European Commission's financial instrument for supporting environment and climate projects. It is aimed at public and private project promoters and aims to promote and finance innovative projects concerning, for example, species and habitat conservation, soil protection, air or water quality improvement, waste management or climate change mitigation or adaptation and energy transition.
For the period 2021-2027, the LIFE program will have a budget of 5.4 billion euros at European level, divided into 2 axes:
An "Environment" axis comprising two sub-programs:
- Nature and Biodiversity
- Circular Economy and Quality of Life", which covers the themes previously included in the "Environment and Resource Efficiency" sub-program.
A "Climate Action" axis comprising the sub-programs:
- Mitigation of and adaptation to climate change", and
- Transition to clean energy".
The first calls for projects for the new LIFE 2021-2027 program have been launched for the four program strands: Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation; Transition to Clean Energy; Circular Economy and Quality of Life; Nature and Biodiversity - more information :

NB:
- exceptionally, in 2021, the LIFE call for projects will be structured in a single stage (except for strategic projects - ex integrated projects), with the submission of a full proposal only.
- The LIFE project submission platform is changing. Applications will no longer be submitted on the European eProposal platform, but on the "Funding and Tenders" platform.
