It was during the organization of the colloquium on legal publishing and the publication of its proceedings that we realized that the legal book remained the poor relation of research in the history of the book. Despite the strong recent trend in the cultural history of law, which has led to the development of work in this field, a comprehensive, federated research program on this theme would be most welcome. We believe it is essential to build a project that brings together both legal and book historians.
