Crises and disasters – climate change, epidemics, earthquakes, large-scale environmental pollution, as well as social, institutional and infrastructural vulnerabilities caused by wars and conflicts – now seem to be an inescapable reality for our societies. Their combinations and interconnections, which sometimes give rise to polycrises, pose significant challenges for the humanities and social sciences, which this seminar seeks to explore. This research seminar examines these critical situations, both historically and in the present day, through the lens of the issues and debates surrounding the bodies of knowledge that study them and the ways in which they are managed, whilst questioning the approaches and methods of the humanities and social sciences that address these issues.
