Johannes Althusius's Politics (1614) occupies a singular place in political thought. The aim of this symposium is to stimulate the reading of this work, by presenting various interpretative approaches that feed into contemporary thought. Without neglecting questions of sources, the original intellectual and political context, the internal architecture of the work, and the history of its reception, we will focus on issues such as authority and sovereignty, federalism and natural law, internal and external war and peace, the state and religion, power control and the right of resistance. We will examine the impact of the problematic of consociation in current fields of philosophy, law, politics and the human sciences.
