International Multidisciplinary Seminar of the Legal Humanism Network, organized by Luigi-Alberto Sanchi (CNRS – IHD) and Xavier Prévost (University of Bordeaux, IRM)

The Jean Gaudemet Institute of Legal History at the University of Paris-Panthéon-Assas and the ISTHisFrench project (ERC-2024-COG 101170233), hosted by the Montesquieu Research Institute at the University of Bordeaux, are organizing seminar sessions to be held at Collège Sainte-Barbe, in the Collinet Room (4 rue Valette, 75005 Paris, 3rd floor), on Fridays from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

An essential component of the European intellectual renaissance, the movement known as “legal humanism” (Italian:Umanesimo giuridico; English: Legal Humanism, German:humanistische Jurisprudenz), which flourished particularly in the 15th and 16th centuries, is defined by an approach to the texts inherited from Roman law that both contrasts with and complements the medieval traditions of gloss and commentary. Scholars working on legal humanism have decided to create a working group to bring them together. The aim is to facilitate collaboration, exchange, and the sharing of resources among partner specialists who feel the need to deepen their knowledge in a complementary manner and wish to establish joint and coordinated action in the field of legal humanism.
