In 2028, La Contemporaine will celebrate its one hundred and tenth anniversary. Created on the occasion of the first world conflict, the Bibliothèque-musée de la guerre became the Bibliothèque de documentation internationale contemporaine in 1934, then "La Contemporaine: bibliothèque, archives, musée des mondes contemporains" in 2018. Since its creation, it has collected, preserved and promoted collections dedicated to military and social conflicts, and their consequences, in a broad 20th century spanning from the Commune to the present day. To prepare a symposium and publication on the history of the institution in 2027-2028, la Contemporaine, in partnership with the association des amis de la Contemporaine and the European research project Activate, is launching a research seminar on its history in 2026-2027.
