Edutainment refers to the use of games in a teaching context, whether for the purposes ofaffordance, reinforcing commitment or transforming skills or representations. The games thus mobilized as artifacts and situations cover a wide range of realities and experiences: video games, games in digital simulation environments, analog games, role-playing games, board games, etc. While their use in educational contexts is not in itself new, the multiplication of edutainment practices and devices in higher education underscores an unprecedented dynamic and raises questions. We certainly need to consider the major issues driving higher education: diversity and inclusion, competency-based approaches, support for success in all its forms, the learning experience and the promotion of active pedagogies, the mobilization of digital tools, professionalization... In light of these transforming challenges, we need to critically and scientifically question what edutainment can bring to higher education. How can games provide a pedagogical opportunity to support the development and acquisition of skills?
