This colloquium is organized within the framework of the program "Curial identities and the myth of Versailles in Europe: perceptions, adhesions and rejections (XVIIIth-XIXth century)" conducted by the research center of the Château de Versailles. Its objective is to analyze the modus operandi of the Versailles myth in the monarchical Europe of the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries, taking into account the two contradictory but complementary elements that characterize this notion: the real and the reconstruction of the real. The challenge will therefore be twofold: to identify how the different aspects of the identity of Versailles were able to nourish an imaginary, but also to grasp the way in which this imaginary was able to give rise to other achievements - architectural, ritual, political.
