Although pacifism is based on the conviction that "war is not inevitable, and that it seems morally and rationally possible to put an end to it, or failing that, to mitigate its frequency and harmful consequences", this current actually covers a wide range of postures and perspectives. The colloquium will address the question of pacifism in the 21st century from a number of angles. From both a historical and contemporary perspective, it will identify the different types of actors in favor of peace, and their modes of political and public action. We will also look at pacifist ideologies, using the tools of political theory and philosophy. Finally, the symposium will provide an opportunity to look back at the research and knowledge that inspired the peace movements, in the light of current debates on participatory research, "citizen science" and even the democratization of knowledge.
