Announcement Calenda 1219039
If ageing and disability can be accompanied by functional limitations, what shortcut is there to presuming that the people concerned are incapable of making decisions and, in the name of their safety, restricting the expression of their self-determination? Respecting the right to live according to one's own choices, despite loss of autonomy, raises questions of fundamental freedom: would accepting the choices of a vulnerable person, despite the risks involved, not ultimately be respecting that person's dignity? In this case, how can families and professionals reconcile respect for dignity, the right to risk and vulnerability? Through the prism of philosophy, sociology, education and law, researchers and practitioners will explore, each from their own discipline and profession, the issues raised by respect for the dignity and free will of individuals in a context of loss of autonomy.
