With the rise of the digital economy, new market dynamics have unfolded, calling for an unprecedented way of mobilizing labor to ensure day-to-day operations. Capitalist platforms are the paradigmatic form of this evolution in contemporary capitalism. Platforms are seen as a kind of "democratic facilitator", with the market seen by their promoters as the sine qua non of a democracy worthy of the name. However, the reality is very different, and perhaps most striking is the way in which platforms act on the subjectivity of micro-entrepreneurs, reducing their avenues of expression and self-fulfillment, with the dangers that such subjective colonization poses to both democratic and ecological coexistence. There is an urgent need to understand complex social and subjective dynamics, which are not always easy to grasp because they are so diffuse.
