1 Summary of feature

The Roman Rota, the great civil court of the papacy, was one of the essential tools of the transnational governance of the Catholic Church in Europe, from the mid-16th to the end of the 17th century. The aim is to study this institution, which is still poorly understood for this period, and to see how the Rote's jurisprudence contributed to the constitution of a legal culture based on negotiation. Among the various issues considered, the question of the circulation of Rote decisions is an important entry point. After establishing a methodology and the scope of research envisaged during this contract, the person recruited will be required to collect, analyze and standardize archival data on the decisions taken by this pontifical tribunal during the period, as well as to participate in the project's steering committee, and finally to promote his/her research through the project's own channels or by other means.
