The eleventh conference ofALTER, Société Européenne de Recherche sur le Handicap, organized by the EHESS Programme Handicap et sociétés, in partnership with the Programme prioritaire de recherche sur l'autonomie, will focus on the evolution of public welfare policies for people with disabilities, and the criticisms that have led to their evolution. Between the struggles of disabled people for the adoption of an anti-discrimination policy, and activation policies, a discourse on the independence of individuals is emerging, alongside a redefinition of disability through notions of autonomy, dependence, and the abandonment of the dichotomy between "able" and "unable". The papers presented at this symposium will focus on these different elements, and will be accompanied by time for exchange and listening, open to all.
