Qualitative research refers to a variety of approaches and methods that aim to describe phenomena in depth, starting with the expression of the people concerned, in order to understand the situations studied. This type of research is increasingly used by researchers in medical and care disciplines, as they come to realize that quantitative data alone - the "gold standard" of health data - is not always transferable to people's experiences, does not take their needs sufficiently into account, or struggles to explain its results.
