The eighteenth century was the century of revolutions: the inspiration of the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the revolutionary days of the nineteenth century until the advent of the Third Republic. But these political upheavals or tidal waves are inseparable from the social and economic transformations and modes of thought that have taken place since the middle of the 18th century. This study day proposes to analyze not only the evolutions of political regimes and thought, of "political cultures", sometimes in what seems to be violent pages of French history, but also all the transformations in the long term of social changes, of modifications of production models, of urban mutations in the light of this 19th century guided by the idea of progress.
