Calenda Ad 1,437,291 (excerpts)
The rule of law, a fundamental pillar of France’s political and constitutional heritage, is under attack from all sides. Populists oppose both “rule by judges” and minority rights, and believe that there should be no limits on the will of the people. A large segment of public opinion shares this view and reduces democracy to the rule of the majority. On a global scale, the major powers (the United States, China, Russia, etc.) have little regard for the concept, are withdrawing from international organizations that defend it, and support political forces in Europe that challenge it.
