Little highlighted, rarely studied, logistics is central in conflicts as shown by current events. The diachronic approach adopted, from Rome to the present day, the variety of subjects dealt with - human and animal food, supply of weapons and ammunition, management of the wounded and prisoners, etc. - aims at two main objectives. On the one hand, to sketch out over the long term the permanence and evolution of supply. On the other hand, to present an overview of the multiplicity of particular cases and adaptations imposed by the physical, geopolitical or tactical environment.
