The year 2022 marks the centenary of Eugen Ehrlich's death. This great jurist of Austro-Hungarian origin is often presented as the father of legal sociology. A close observer of legal practices, he was the first to use and invent concepts that have become fundamental in legal sociology today, such as legal pluralism, living law, and the consciousness of law. His work revisits and reverses the illustrious tradition of the Pandects, established and perfected by jurists such as Savigny or Puchta. Although Ehrlich has inspired jurists all over the world, he remains a little known figure in France. The present colloquium is devoted to the study of the actuality of his thought, taking as its main reference the last chapters of his work Grundlegung der Soziologie des Rechts (Foundation of the Sociology of Law).
