I General framework of the scheme

The Prix d'excellence en sociologie de langue française was created by the Canadian Sociological Association in 2021 to recognize outstanding books and articles published in French that contribute to the advancement of knowledge on a social phenomenon or sociological thought in Canada.

It is a title of recognition. The award is presented at the next annual conference. Recipients will be invited to make a presentation of their book or article at the annual conference of the Canadian Sociological Association (CSA) following the official announcement of the selection.

II Summary of Eligibility Requirements

The lead author

  • Holds a PhD in sociology from a Canadian university, OR
  • holds a faculty position in a Canadian department of sociology, OR
  • is affiliated with a department of sociology (e.g., professor emeritus or non-permanent, postdoctoral researcher or lecturer)

Article

  • Published in French within the last two years (January 1, 2021 - December 31, 2022)
  • The article has not been translated or republished
  • Makes an outstanding contribution to sociological knowledge:
    • Is based on sound sociological theory and/or methodology
    • Is supported by rigorous research
    • Is written in clear language and contributes to the advancement of knowledge about a social phenomenon or sociological thought in Canada.

The book

  • Has been published within the last two years (Not applicable in 2023)
  • Is a first edition publication
  • Is not a collective work, translated, or republished
  • Is not primarily intended for educational purposes
  • Makes an outstanding contribution to the state of knowledge in sociology
  • Is based on sound sociological theory and/or methodology
  • Is supported by rigorous research
  • Is written in clear language that is understandable to the general public
  • Focuses specifically on a social phenomenon or sociological thought in Canada

The proposal must include a statement outlining why the proposed work is an outstanding contribution to the advancement of sociological knowledge in Canada.
