CIERA awards its Michael Werner Prize, a thesis prize designed to distinguish doctoral work among university research related to the Germanic world.

Eligible for the Michael Werner Prize are doctoral theses written in French, in all disciplines of the humanities and social sciences.
The prize is open to doctoral theses defended between January 1, 2022 and December 31, 2024.

The prize takes the form of a publication of the winning thesis in the series Dialogiques series in the Bibliothèque allemande collection published by Éditions de la Maison des sciences de l'homme. The costs of typesetting, editing and promoting the book are fully covered by the publisher and CIERA. CIERA provides support to the author in transforming his or her doctoral work into a book for publication.

The Michael Werner Prize is incompatible with any other prize intended for the publication of the thesis - the winning of which entails the obligation to withdraw from the competition.

Candidates undertake to complete the work of transforming the thesis into a book within a reasonable period of time.
