Calenda Announcement 1,438,092 (excerpts)

This call for papers proposes to study sibling relationships exclusively from the perspective of sisters, who have been less studied than their brothers, largely due to the imbalance in the preservation of sources and their dispersion across various family, marital, or religious archives. It thus aims to examine the place of sisters within families, their emotional, supportive, or conflictual relationships with their siblings, as well as their role in strategies concerning inheritance, marriage, and politics. The project is based on a comparative approach at the European level, taking into account the diversity of kinship systems and long-term developments between the 10th and 18th centuries.
