Doctoral research in art history/history of photography will focus on the photographic collections of the Pôle muséal de Saint-Etienne. The study of its photographic holdings will contribute to the renewal movement that has been underway for several years in the field of photography studies. For a long time, commissioned works were given little consideration in relation to auteur photography, but today there is a growing interest in non-art uses of photography. Current research into the history of photography is thus interested in the medium in the broadest sense, whatever the status of the images, and tends to abolish established hierarchies.
