Job Description

Based at the Montpellier campus, this position is part of the Department of Practical Theology (TP) at the Protestant Institute of Theology (IPT). The incumbent is responsible for teaching in various fields of Practical Theology across the IPT’s two faculties and, more specifically, conducts research in one of these fields. He or she will play an active role in the responsibilities specifically entrusted to the PT department, particularly within the context of the Master’s program in Church and Society.

Candidate Profile

The candidate must

  • either hold an HDR in Protestant Theology;
  • or hold a Ph.D. in Protestant theology. In this case, the candidate must commit to preparing an HDR, which is required to supervise doctoral dissertations.

However, doctoral students whose thesis is scheduled to be defended no later than during the following academic year may be authorized to apply (in this case, a letter of confirmation from the thesis advisor is required, and several completed chapters of the thesis must be included in the application).

The candidate must have a good command of the French language.

The skills sought in the relevant disciplinary fields are as follows:

  • a solid knowledge of the history and methodological issues of the discipline;
  • the ability to conduct research in one or more fields of practical theology: pastoral practices; ecclesial practices; contextual hermeneutics; communication of the Gospel, etc.;
  • the ability to engage in theological reflection based on the analysis of practices.

In addition to the candidate’s academic qualifications, consideration will be given to their ability to implement dynamic teaching and research and to engage with the ongoing pedagogical developments at the IPT (integration of in-person and distance learning, new degree programs, and the expansion of work-study programs).

Furthermore, the candidate must have and continue to acquire a solid understanding of French Lutheran-Reformed Protestantism, in all the diversity of its institutional and human components. A good understanding of the challenges involved in pastoral ministry is required. Pastoral experience (pastoral ministry or specialized ministry) is preferred.

Finally, the candidate must be able to contribute to teamwork within the Institute’s governing bodies, particularly the faculty and the Practical Theology department.

Women are encouraged to apply.
