As part of their partnership, the Maison Européenne des Sciences Humaines et Sociales (MESHS), with the support of the Région Hauts-de-France, the Maison des Sciences Humaines de l'Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Maison des Sciences de l'Homme de l'Université de Liège and the Maison Française d'Oxford are organizing an annual seminar aimed at stimulating interdisciplinary reflection, offering a comparative perspective between border countries, highlighting local projects and building new collaborations.

Following meetings on COVID-19 through the prism of SHS (December 2022), The migration issue in post-industrial societies: a cross-sectional look at the Nord-Transmanche Euroregion (March 2024) and The challenges of democracy (March 2025), this new academic year will focus on "making Europe".

After 75 years of European construction, what does Europe mean to its citizens, and how is it perceived around the world? Europe has undergone major changes (internal market, enlargements, single currency, free movement, etc.) and is facing major crises and challenges (COVID-19, invasion of Ukraine, climate crisis, digital revolutions, etc.), but do young Europeans see themselves as such? Have these events united or divided European citizens? How do national and even regional identities coexist with the European identity? Is Europe perceived in the world as a unit, like a federal state, or only through certain member states? How is Europe being built today, both inside and outside its borders? In short, what does it mean to be European in 2026?
