Calenda Ad 1,432,390 (excerpts)
For centuries, maps have depicted the far reaches of the world as populated by dragons and other fantastical beasts. These creatures did not exist in those unknown regions; fear, however, did. It expresses something about the world and the relationship that societies, cultures, and individuals have with places, territories, and space. This call for papers from the journal Géographie et cultures aims to explore this most common of experiences. We are interested here in how fear exacerbates and reveals our relationship to space and to inhabiting it, but also—and above all—in how it functions as a geographical operator, from social practices to geopolitics, including urban planning and land use.
