Announcement Calenda 1267074 (extracts)

The mission of the Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire (Bnu) is to provide documentation and support for research and training, and to contribute to the development of digital culture in relation to its collections. To this end, it has set up a mechanism for welcoming researchers to study and promote its collections, with priority given to unpublished, little-known, rare or unreported items. The aim is to encourage cooperation and the emergence of a project that combines the expertise of researchers and collection specialists from the outset, in the spirit of open science.

Thanks to the generosity of a patron, the Bnu is awarding a residency grant in 2026, for a period of six consecutive months, to carry out academic work on the Abraham Moles collection.

The library of Abraham Moles (1920-1992) joined the Bnu's collections in 2013 as a gift from Madame Elisabeth Rohmer-Moles. With around 7,000 volumes, this collection reflects the wide-ranging interests of a researcher trained in both the exact sciences and the humanities. Books and files, records and objects trace an intellectual and professional trajectory, from Moles' early work as an electroacoustic engineer to his research in social psychology, from his collaboration with RTF's Centre d'Etudes de la Radiotélévision to his work on kitsch. The exhibition also highlights the specialist fields of the man who was a pioneer of the information and communication sciences in France: computer science and urban planning, posters and design, semiology and futurism.

The subject developed during the researcher's stay must be directly related to the Abraham Moles collection held by the Bibliothèque nationale et universitaire. It should focus on the parts of the collection listed in the Calames catalog (musicology, acoustics), or on psychology, part of sociology or the tape collection.
