As part of the new IUF workshop under the direction of Éric Baratay,“Mourning and Dying as an Animal ” aims to extend the historical inquiry “from the animals’ perspective.” This workshop thus proposes to explore the full range of relationships that animals have with death by distancing itself from anthropocentric perspectives and placing animals at the center of the discussion. It aims to adopt an interdisciplinary approach by fostering dialogue among history, archaeology, art history, sociology, anthropology, philosophy, literature, ecology, ethology, biology, genetics, and veterinary science to understand how animals die or grieve in different contexts.
